This week's homework. Week beginning 17th March, 2002
Homework | Bonus | Home Reading | Notes for parents.| Previous homework
To help focus our reading group discussions, I will be sending a pack of post-it sticky notes with the children in their reading folders. The children should use them for taking notes about funny, confusing, sad, interesting parts etc. that they come across in their home reading. I call the notes "response notes".
The notes should include the page number and something about that page that they would like to discuss. They should be stuck directly onto that page.
They could also write words that they don't understand. We will discuss the post-its in reading groups. The children will practice writing the notes in class so they will know how to write them by themselves.
Examples -
pg 32. I thought it was funny when the dog bumped the ball with his head.
pg 47. What does 'serendipity' mean?
pg 15. It was sad to learn what happened to the people when Mt. Vesuvius erupted.

Remember
to read at least 20 minutes every day after school and fill in your
Home Reading Log!
Parents, please have your child bring in his/her book folders to school every single day. The reading and math logs plus all school reading books (until I collect them) live in these book folders. Please ensure they are always in this folder. Required books given by me will have a special bookmark in them, this means that your child must read this book first until it is finished or for at least 20 minutes, before reading self-selected books. This new bookmark system will inform you of the days your child reads with me. This will take the place of the letter I said I would send home
Ms. Greenblatt.
